Riton Optics: Upgrade Your Glass

It bears repeating—because I’ve said it before—but you should be investing more into your optics than in the gun they’re going on. The right optics can elevate your shooting. The wrong optics…well, it isn’t good. One manufacturer of good glass you might not be familiar with is Riton Optics, and we’re going to fill you in on what’s new for them and why we think it’s a brand that should be part of your collection.

First, let’s get one thing straight. Riton is pronounced “right on” not “ritt on” or “rittahn.” Moving on to the fun stuff . . .

Riton 3 Tactix EED

The Riton 3 Tactix EED (Enclosed Emitter Dot) is a rugged red dot that’s fantastic for handguns. It offers a broad field of view, clear glass, and a nice, crisp dot. The viewing window is 21.0mm x 16.5mm. To extend battery life the 3 Tactix EED has a shake away function and automatically shuts off after non-use. It’s nice not to mess with buttons to turn your dot on, especially if you’re carrying it for defensive purposes. This dot has an ACRO footprint and yes, that means a larger housing (but how else are you going to get that broad field of view?). MSRP is set at $349.99.

Riton 3 Tactix MPRD 3

Yes, more red dots, because red dot sights are increasingly becoming must have items for hangunners. The Riton 3 Tactix MPRD (Micro Pistol Red Dot) 3 is the workhorse of the bunch designed for your daily carry gun. It has a glass lens — which is great compared to the various polymer blends you see on a lot of reflex sights — and an integral hood shield to protect it from the usual bumps and scrapes.

The 3 Tactix MPRD 3 has a trio of dot options so you can choose what suits your needs—and your eyes—best.  This one has an RMSc footprint and runs on one CR1632 battery. Features include a side-loading battery tray and apparently up to 50,000 hours of battery life. It isn’t that you don’t ever need new batteries in your dots, only that you should trust it to have an extensive enough life to last for a very long time. MSRP is set at $329.99.

Riton 3 Tactix 3X Magnifier

Riton 3 Tactix 3X Magnifier

The Riton 3 Tactix 3X Magnifier paired with the 1 Tactix ARD 2 is a solid set of optics for rifles. If you’re not a big fan of optics, I’m here to tell you the 3 Tactix 3X Magnifier performs well. Unlike some magnifiers it doesn’t condense your entire visual field—and, therefore, world—down to a pinhole-like appearance. There’s no black ring of visual death, no tunneling, and no worry of totally losing your field of view. It has a QD mount for quick mounting or removal and helps you reach out and touch targets at greater distances than you’re getting with a dot sight alone. MSRP $249.99.

Riton 3 Primal 3-15×44 LW

The Primal line of optics from Riton is a family of glass made with hunting in mind, and the 3 Primal 3-15×44 LW is a good example of the company’s dedication to quality and performance. This scope has a 30mm tube—so it’ll fit a broad spectrum of mounts—and is designed to be lighter weight than many similarly sized counterparts. It has a glass-etched XRP (Extended Range Plex) reticle that takes your standard crosshairs and elevates them for reliable holdovers on the fly. This scope is parallax adjustable from 25 to infinity and has 3.54-inches of eye relief. Click value is ¼ MOA. MSRP is set at $749.99.

This is just a quick overview of some of Riton’s newest optics (although we did spend live fire time with all these, and a few more). Stay tuned for in-depth reviews.
