It Looks Like the DOJ’s Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force Is Getting Off to a Good Start

AG Bondi swears in Harmeet Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division

Last week, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the creation of a Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force, nothing that, “For too long, the Second Amendment, which establishes the fundamental individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms, has been treated as a second-class right.” We second that emotion and were happy to hear about the task force.

Dreaming big, we noted that federal law prohibits anyone “acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.” We then wrote . . .

Think about it. By that description, [that federal law] includes Governors, state Attorneys Generallegislatorslaw enforcement officers, and many, many more.

The only question is how far Bondi and her new task force will be willing to press the matter. We’ll be watching this closely. You should, too.

Welp…we may have our first indication that the task force intends to take their job and federal law, as written, very seriously indeed.

Harmeet K. Dhillon was sworn in last week as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. Yesterday, she tweeted this:

She’s only been on the job a little more than a week, but this appears to be a very good indication of how the task force could operate. As the person at DOJ who would be primarily responsible for taking action against those who violate individuals’ gun rights as established by the Supreme Court, Dhillon certainly seems to have the right attitude. We can’t wait to see who she selects as her first target.

Stay tuned.

  1. This is the way.

Anti-gun politicians in D-controlled states like NY, CA, WA, NJ, MA, CO, have relied on the fact that there has been essentially no downside to them passing obviously unconstitutional and illegal laws to appease their base. Sure, it will eventually get overturned, but it doesn’t affect their pocketbook or liberty, and they get all kinds of street cred with their supporters.

No longer. Start going after some of these people for conspiracy to violate the civil rights of gun owners, and virtue signaling starts to have a steep cost.

My guess is that the first target will be politicians in a municipality like Boulder, Evanston, or Philadelphia who pass gun control measures even though the city’s legal department or state’s AG advises them that it would be unconstitutional. Nail a couple of them for civil rights violations, and other politicians will start looking over their shoulders.
