The one unfired safe queen in my entire collection is no longer a virgin. At Dan’s gentle encouragement I have officially shot my CZ P-09 MHS, a version of the P-09 Duty that CZ made to submit for the U.S. military’s Modular Handgun System trials.
Bobbed hammer, double action only, manual safety, .40 S&W . . . it’s truly an odd duck. Only 50 of these bad boys exist and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to buy one back in the beginning of 2016. Serial number US00100, no less!
CZ, you see, ultimately chose not to submit the P-09 for the MHS trials after all. For the rest of the deets on this rare gun, you’ll just have to watch the video.
I can see the .mil choosing DAO for a pistol, it’s insurance that to fire the weapon, it’s a deliberate act, so negligent discharges are (for the most part) effectively eliminated.
Nothing I would want in a semi-auto mag-fed handgun, but for a bunch of moron recruits, I could see it.
(I also happen to prefer DAO in pocket revolvers, with no exposed hammer, there’s nothing to hang up when drawing…)
