FPC Urges the Trump Administration to Enact ‘Massive NFA Reforms’, Among Other Gun Rights Proposals

Today, the Firearms Policy Coalition announced priority policy reforms and urged the White House and Department of Justice to take immediate and meaningful action to safeguard and support the rights of peaceable gun owners across the country.

Background

  • We submitted a report to the White House and DOJ outlining numerous positive key reforms that the Trump Administration can enact to address unconstitutional and burdensome rules, regulations, and enforcement practices.
  • On February 7, President Trump issued a landmark executive order that directed the Attorney General to “examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens, and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.”
  • In our most recent meeting this past week, White House staff confirmed that many of our proposals are being strongly considered and confirmed their willingness to entertain additional suggestions.

What We’re Working to Achieve

Among numerous other proposed reforms, FPC is encouraging the White House and DOJ to:

  1. Establish a Second Amendment Czar – A dedicated official to coordinate and implement the Administration’s pro-rights policy agenda across the executive branch, from DOJ criminal prosecutions to civil litigation, the ATF, Department of Commerce, and more, to ensure that all federal departments and agencies are aligned around protecting the right to keep and bear arms. This role would also serve as a liaison to ensure Second Amendment concerns are consistently addressed at the highest levels.
  2. Create and Staff a First and Second Amendment Section Within the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division – A specialized section within the DOJ dedicated to addressing and litigating against unconstitutional laws, policies, and practices of state and local officials that violate the right to keep and bear arms and free speech. This is particularly important to residents and visitors of jurisdictions that are openly hostile to free speech and the Second Amendment, like California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Hawaii, and others.
  3. Enact Massive National Firearms Act (NFA) Arms Reforms – A comprehensive review and modernization initiative to remove or update outdated rules and processes, increase access to NFA-regulated arms, and speed processing with point-of-purchase processing and virtually instant background check responses, among other things.

Quotes

FPC President Brandon Combs said, “Enactment of these critical proposals is necessary to protect the rights of millions of Americans from unconstitutional and immoral government overreach. That is why we respectfully call on the White House and Department of Justice to take immediate action to address these important issues and improve access to the right to keep and bear arms. On behalf of our members, we commend President Trump for the steps he has taken to protect the rights of gun owners, eagerly await his next actions, and look forward to continuing to work with his administration and DOJ leaders to protect the rights of peaceable people throughout the United States.”

  1. Geoff "I'm getting too old for this shit" PR

Easier still, have acting ATF director Kash Patel simply announce the BATF will no longer harass owners of ‘wipe’ suppressors replacing worn out wipes, the way it was for many, many years? That owners of cans can simply replace damaged baffles and end-caps themselves instead of expensive and cumbersome factory service?

    1. If you buy a Silencerco can, factory service is free (lifetime warranty).

As far as speed / cumbersomeness of the process, allow me to relate my recent experience:

I went with Dan and Jeremy to the range a couple of weeks ago (they were testing the new Begara rifle that’s reviewed in the previous article), as I needed to test / tune my new Tromix .458 SOCOM upper with a new Silencerco Hybrid 46M can. However, apparently due to a bad ASR mount, the can soon went downrange, yielding multiple baffle strikes and scuffing the heck out of the can as it tumbled across a caliche patch.

Had the folks at Capitol Armory confirm that the threads on the barrel were sufficiently concentric, and that the fault appeared to be in the ARS mount. Got home, went online, filled out the RMA request form. SiCo issued and e-mailed me the RMA within a couple of hours. UPS’d it to SiCo the next day with a copy of the tax stamp.

Silencerco turned it around and shipped it back THE DAY AFTER THEY RECEIVED IT!!!

Got the can back yesterday (FedEx was its usual incompetent self, so delivery took longer than it should have, but that’s not on SiCo). The can is completely refurbished (it looks brand new), with a new ARS mount and muzzle break.

All but one of my cans are from SiCo, and this was the first issue I have ever had with any of them. But if **** happens, their customer service is exceptional.

    No Firearms America act.
I’m still confused about handguns not being able to enhance their accuracy by adding a stock.
