Gun Review: SIG SAUER P320-FLUX LEGION Personal Defense Weapon

We wrote about SIG SAUER’s new P320-FLUX LEGION personal defense weapon when it was first announced back in June. It’s an unusual collaboration between SIG and FLUX DEFENSE. FLUX has been selling their Raider X P320 chassis as a sort of “add-on.” The idea is that owners of the modular P320 pistol can buy the chassis and assemble a unique, effective, and compact PDW that’s a great option as a truck gun, for home defense, or as a backpack gun.

Now, with the SIG P320-FLUX LEGION, SIG is, in effect, selling the whole package as a complete firearm. They’ve also upped the anti by making it part of their Legion line of pistols with a higher lever of finish and an enhanced trigger.

This ultra-compact package comes with two 30-round magazines. That gives you 60+1 rounds of onboard capacity using the traditional magazine well in the grip as well as the forward magazine holder. Yes, that’s a magazine holder, definitely not a vertical forward grip (because that would be wrong). Just to make that clear to everyone they’ve molded “NOT A VFG” right onto the holder.

The P320-FLUX LEGION’s controls give you a lot of options. There’s a thumb safety a number of options for dropping magazines.

On the right side of the gun is a quick deployment lever for the pistol brace. Press it down and the sprung brace shoots out into position. Press the same level to collapse the brace when you’re finished having fun.

With a red dot mounted, the FLUX LEGION makes for a surprisingly convenient and very effective little personal defense package.

And then there are those magazine release options. On the right side, there’s an “AR style” release button positioned just forward of the trigger that lets you drop the magazine in the mag well. There’s also another lever on the left side of the gun just below the thumb safety lever that lets you do the same thing.

But…underneath the trigger at the back of the forward magazine holder is a release that drops both of the magazines at the same time. That makes reloads very fast and easy. Grab the magazine in the forward holder and press the button with your thumb (as in the photo above). That drops the empty magazine in the grip and releases the magazine in the forward holder for a quick reload. (Watch me do that at 3:55 in the video above.)

The slide and barrel are compensated to help manage muzzle flip, though that’s minimized given the size of the total P320-FLUX LEGION package and the two-handed grip you’ll be using.

With its brace collapsed, the P320-FLUX LEGION is a compact package that can easily be stowed in a trunk, a center console, or a backpack to take with you anywhere. If you choose, there’s also a single QD mount point at the rear for use with a sling.

That makes the SIG SAUER P320-FLUX LEGION a surprisingly compact and convenient personal defense weapon that you can have with you virtually all the time, anywhere you want to go.

  1. Nope. Once again, photos are shown with the shooters’ thumbs within 1/2″ of the muzzle. If that’s the default grip of this otherwise intriguing contraption, then that’s where it loses me.
