1 of 88: Steyr’s Limited Edition MP 88 9mm AUG Bullpup [VIDEO]

One of the many variants of the iconic Steyr AUG bullpup rifle that’s been produced over the years is the MPi 88, a 9mm submachine gun that featured the characteristic raised STG77 raised 1.5X scope. The MPi88 basically used a magazine well adapter to allow the use of proprietary 9mm magazines in a rifle that was originally chambered in 5.56.

Last year, Steyr announced they’d be selling a very limited run (only 88) of semi-auto MP 88 bullpups and, well, we got our hands on one.

  1. Interesting gun.

Personally, don’t mind a bullpup. People told my brother he would not like the Springfield hellion ’cause its a damn bullpup’, so he gave it to me after he won it. I like it, length of pull is a little short for me – sort of like it was made with ‘smaller’ people in mind, but I like it, and my wife likes it so it became hers with a very resolute “its my rifle” she told me.

  2. I Haz A Question

Looks like a fun item. But with only 88 produced, I hope they’re reliably solid and won’t need to be serviced with any parts proprietary to only that specific model…

  3. Seems dangerous and misleading that the receiver is stamped .223 and the barrel is stamped 9X19 (initial article photo)? It would be very difficult to chamber a .223 in a 9mm chamber/magazine. But, in today’s world, why not simply stamp them correctly?
