How to Answer the Question, ‘Why Do You Need So Many Guns?’

Larry did a hell of a job here, but we can think of at least two more:

1) None of your damned business
2) Because I can

Add any more you can think of to the comments below.

  1. Do tack drivers count as hammers? Asking ’cause I got 37 tack drivers, and the rest of the other 142 ‘tools’ are not exactly tack drivers but will do the job. So I need to know for the next time someone asks how many hammers I have.

    😁

    1. There is a huge difference between a tack hammer and a tack driver and this is what scares many who can’t be hammered into understanding the difference.

    2. I Haz A Question

At least you can quickly provide a tally of your hammers. I have to pause and take a mental inventory (to ensure I counted everything stored in their various locations and conditions) before arriving at mine. And even then…I never tell anyone the real total, because I don’t fully trust anyone outside of only a very few I can count on one hand.

Usually I just purse my lips, look up at the ceiling whilst murmuring for a moment as if I’m trying to count, then look back at the person with a wink and say, “Almost enough”.

  2. Tack, finish, framing (several weights), demo, concrete, ball peen, roofing, masonry, drywall, 2lb, 3lb, 10lb, maul, dead blow, rubber mallet, brass, plastic, straight claw/ curved claw/ one claw, and i am sure i am missing a bunch.

  3. Well, the OP raised a really stupid strawman, and Larry Correia (who I greatly admire) . . . took the bait.

FIRST, and foremost, it’s none of your damn business how many hammers I have. If I approached you on the street and started telling you how many hammers I had, you would not be wrong to think me weird . . . but if it was because it was hammers, that would be stupid.

But hammers are a decent analogy to guns – there are different guns FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES. Most PotG understand that. And guns are just COOL – modern firearms (and some historical examples) were spectacular examples of great innovation, engineering, precision manufacturing, even artistry in design. And some people collect salt and pepper shakers.

I have a number of guns (how many, and which ones, are “nunya”) because (i) you need different firearms for different uses, and (ii) I admire really cool examples of artistry in guns. You collect stamps; I’ll collect guns, and I won’t bug you about your stamps, so leave me alone.

Again, the whole argument is just STOOPID.

    1. Lamp – the number of ANY tool that a person owns is indeed nunya. Having spare hammers – in case the head chips or the handle breaks means a person can continue the task they were involved in when the damage occurs.
Further – by the ‘reasoning’ in the illustration NO one needs more than one spoon, one fork and one butter knife. Since tptb are trying to restrict eating of meat steak knives should be banned as well. Actually all a person would really ‘need’ would be a single spork 😉 Oh wait, I actually have a couple of them.

      1. ‘Cause “…the right of the people to keep and bear shoes, shall not be infringed.” … apparently, in left wing translation where they plug in anything they want.

“… the right of the people to keep and bear an imaginary gender, shall not be infringed” and so on and so forth.

  4. I’m not even a carpenter but I’m pretty sure I have at least 5 or 6 actual hammers. Claw hammers, framing hammers, ball-peen hammers, several sizes of sledgehammers, brass hammers, rubber & nylon hammers. Sure I’m missing some. You wouldn’t take a 16# sledgehammer to frame a house anymore than you’d use a 50 BMG for squirrel hunting.

    1. Ya can’t use .50 BMG for squirrel hunting?

Well, that answers why I can’t find ’em after I shoot them.

    1. If you carry a hammer in a vehicle, the hammer head must be separated from the handle and both kept in locked containers in the trunk.
Jack hammers and sledge hammers are forbidden because they are hammers of destruction……not to be confused with hammers of war.

  5. I never tell anyone how many guns I have and I never tell anyone how many cats I have. But to the question “Why do you need so many guns.” The answer is I don’t. The Constitution doesn’t say you need to need them. It just says you can have them. I don’t need two pairs of pants, either, but I have them. Whoever asks the question has things they don’t need. I don’t need my house; I could live under a bridge. Why do I need to need something to have it?

    1. Yeah, but not exactly convenient to carry. Also, not so good for hunting – kinda hard to harvest the meat, afterwards.

  6. I do own 37 hammers. At least.

Just because you’re too inherently dumb to understand or willfully ignorant of the fact that there are way more kinds of hammers than the two you have is not MY problem. It’s yours. Learn something.

Other people aren’t you and may have different needs or desires than you and it’s none of your damn business what they do.

  7. At 10 hammers, I’m apparently beyond obsessive, and approaching sick. But at least I’ve never contemplated chopping my dick off, so there’s that.

  8. Because the nails have become dangerous. Our nails are even importing foreign nails without even doing any quality control checks. As a result we have millions of foreign nails running around and among them are hundreds of thousands of defective nails who like raping and killing. The government, who has become extremely pro-nail, is making it more difficult to obtain more hammers and parts for hammers. Their admitted goal is to one day have a world without hammers. Other countries have tried this and it has gone horribly for the carpenters. The nails now run their country and if they speak out against the nails in anyway, they are thrown in jail. Given all of this, it would seem the pride t course of action to obtain as many hammers as you can. It’s better to have a hammer and not need it, than to need a hammer and not have it.

  9. Perhaps , because of the Different Calibers firearms come in and The Different Actions? Most Firearms Enthusiasts [or Gun Nuts If you prefer] like to gain proficiency in and with various powers of ammo , .38/.357 , .44 , .45 , 9MM in Handguns , the various rifle calibers , .22LR (Very popular) and , of course ,
Shotguns. The Various Actions , Semi-Auto , Lever , Pump, Bolt , Single shot Break Action. Many want to gain Skill in at least Two , if not more , of these action types.

    Get It Now!!

  10. Asking a firearms owner why they have so many is like asking a woman why she has so many pairs of shoes. Because I like them and they go with all my outfits so well. Next question…
