Fiocchi sponsored shooter and nationally certified level 3 sporting clays instructor Bill Elliott.
1. We want to know more about you. Please give us a glimpse into your journey with firearms.
It all started in Ohio at the Avon Sportsmans Club in 7th grade, where I worked as a trap boy. My dad was always into rifles and pistols; therefore, I grew up around firearms. As I grew up and graduated from college I remembered the lasting impression that clay target shooting left on me. I soon got back into it in my late 20s, then in my 40s, and made it my career with my company Elliott Coaching.
2. What two pieces of advice would you give someone interested in learning how to shoot or purchase their first firearm?
First, seek out a reputable coach. Second, see if there are demo centers with staff that can guide you along the way in your area.
3. What is your favorite piece of firearm-related equipment that you own? Why do you like it?
Hmmmm, that is a great question. I would have to say it is my Negrini Compact travel case. It is TSA pad locked approved, lightweight and super durable. I could also add my A400 Beretta … my Smurf gun!
4. What was something someone told you (or that you read) that significantly influenced your life?
The Chief Instructor of the National Sporting Clays Association, Don Currie, was a huge mentor and still is for me. He encouraged me to start writing for publication, which ultimately helped develop my coaching business. In the long run however, I would never be where I am today without my supportive wife, mom and dad. Surround yourself with the right people. You are who you run with.
5. What do you wish you knew about getting involved with firearms right from the beginning of your journey?
I wish I started with a coach earlier. It can shorten the learning curve and save you a lot of money down the road. Growing up we did not have the youth programming that is available today. I encourage any parent or legal guardian to get involved with their children through SCTP, High School Leagues or University. Be safe, have fun.
