How Do You Carry Your Pocket Gun?

DeSantis Gunhide Poket Partner pocket holster Kydex

I don’t know about you, but I’m a frequent pocket carrier. There are lots of times I’d rather slip a mohaska in my front pocket than strap one on my belt. I just find it more comfortable over a longer period of time. And that’s only increased now that I own Smith & Wesson’s fantastic little Bodyguard 2.0 .380 pistol.

But my pocket holsters have always been made of either leather or some kind of fabric. Something like this, or this, or this. DeSantis Gunhide is out to change that. They’ve just announced their new Pocket Partner holster that’s made of Kydex.

The #222, Pocket Partner is built from precision-formed Kydex, is ambidextrous, and has user-adjustable tension. The bold hook-shaped component keeps the Pocket Partner secure in the pants pocket when drawing the pistol. The elongated thumb tabs allow the operator to push off and disengage the pistol while still in the pocket allowing a very rapid draw. Retail price is $49.99

Now available for the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 and Ruger LCP II/Max with additional fitments for the most popular pocket guns will be available soon.

I’ll be ordering one just to give it a go.

  1. Being a wheelchair-bound paraplegic, I don’t get much use out of my pockets. But my wheelchair provides a plethora of useful off-body carry options.

Whether it’s my CZ P-10F .45, full size Beretta APX A1, Kahr CW45, or M&P 9 Shield Plus- they are all carried with a spare full size mag and wear a Gunner’s Custom Holsters Trigger Guard Holster.

    That’s how I roll…

  2. I like a fabric sticky, because it just seems a bit less likely to print because of the softer lines. However, I have no experience with a kydex pocket holster, so I’m interested in learning about your experience with this new DeSantis, Dan.

Same here, but printing is much less a concern. There was a holster company called “Sneaky Pete” awhile back, but they appear to be DOA.

The current holster is called “Sticky MD-5”, and it’s a rubberized fabric of some sort, but it doesn’t grip the fabric of my pocket. That’s a problem, because I end up extracting my Ruger LCR .357 still stuck in the holster, blocking access to the trigger.

So, I just slide the LCR in my pocket as-is and go that way. The chance of an ND is effectively nonresistant, as the long, heavy trigger pull is all the safety I’ll ever need for it.

Is anyone aware of an actually ‘sticky’ pocket holster for a 5-shot snubbie?

The pockets in my everyday wear cargo pants are so massive, I can easily slide a full-size Glock 17 in there and have *zero* issues with quickly drawing it, if I so chose…

  3. Heck yeah. Pocket carry is great because it’s easy. I have two DeSantis Super Fly holsters. They work great. The outside is sticky so the holster stays put when you draw.

    1. Dude,

In case you missed one of my comments in the last few weeks, I started carrying two Ruger LCP pistols (both chambered in .380 ACP) this summer and I really like it. (I carry one in my left front shorts/pants pocket and one in my right front shorts/pants pocket.) That gives me 14 shots without having to reload AND I can have draw with either hand which could be advantageous. Of course if one pistol fails for some reason I can immediately transition to the second pistol without having to go through “tap, rack, bang!” drills.

If you are not already doing so, please consider carrying two pistols–one on your left side and one on your right side of your body.

*Exactly* what I’m looking for, I’m picking one up. thanks!

  4. I have been carrying two Ruger LCPs in my front shorts/pants pockets this summer. I carry one of them with the fabric pocket holster that Ruger provided with the LCP. And I carry the other with a DeSantis Nemesis fabric pocket holster.

Both holsters work fine to cover the trigger at all times and both have sticky sections which keep them in my pocket when I draw them.

Their only down side is that those small semi-auto handguns print through those fabric holster and my shorts/pants (and it is pretty obvious) even though they include a thin fabric section to square off the perimeter/outline of the holster.

Due to that printing shortcoming, I just started looking the other day for pocket holsters which will appear to be wallets rather than handguns when sitting down. This is my top contender: Talon Ruger LCP, LCPII, Kel-Tec P3AT Wallet Holster (Talon Holsters SKU: LCPWH-BL-RI-NOLASER). Note that I would carry the holster such that the completely flat side was facing out when standing and facing up when sitting. That should create an outline that looks like a wallet in my pocket rather than a small semi-auto pistol.

Similar here, my LCR is in one pocket, my NAA mini-revolver is in the opposite rear pocket as a ‘Velo Dog’ for when pounding out the miles on my bike….

  5. I have pocket carried my EDC for over a decade, previously a G26 in a DeSantis Nemesis, and for the last year or so an FN Reflex in a Sticky holster.

DeSantis makes good stuff. May have to check this out.

  6. Ruger LCP Max in a nemesis holster. My favorite for LCPs.

Used one for my original LCP. Cleaning the holster with a wet wipe and alcohol will extend the tackiness of the material. My first lasted 7 years.

When I bought a gen 2 LCP ( not LCP II) with a Viridian Light, it came with a soft pocket holster with an implant to ignite the light. It worked fine, but allowed moisture to penetrate to the pistol. I replaced it with another nemesis and added the implant to ignite the light.

I bought an LCP max when they came out and it came with the same soft (and porous) fabric holster as the Viridian. I bought a nemesis for it and it functions perfectly.

For my 042 Centenial (any 2 in J frame), I use a Kramer pocket holster that I bought in 1993. I wore it daily for about 15 years. It is still stiff and functions 100%. Kramer has now altered the original design to give a better grip on the firearm and better hook the pocket on the draw. Great product.

I also have Mika pocket holsters for the J frame and Ruger LCR. Tip – if ordering a Mika, ask them to shorten the pouch pocket so the grip will protrude above the Naugahyde and let you get a firing grip. Great product.
