Turkish Olympic Shooter Dedicates His Medal to Everyone in Turkey Except the Bastards Who Confiscated His Gun

Yusuf Dikec

During a live broadcast on TGRT News, Yusuf Dikec, who won a silver medal in shooting at the Paris 2024 Olympics, made headlines worldwide with his relaxed demeanor during his performance. His statements during the broadcast also garnered significant attention.

“Three days before the competition where the Olympic quota was awarded last year, they took my gun away from me. I dedicate this medal to 85 million (Turkish) people, except those who took my gun,” Dikec said. This raised the question, “Why was Dikec’s gun confiscated?”

According to information obtained by Türkiye Today, Dikec, a senior master sergeant, had his gun confiscated when he was transferred from his position as a manager at Mersin Shooting Facilities to the Gendarmerie General Command in Ankara.

Officials stated that this incident occurred as a matter of procedure and was later resolved amicably. However, Dikec believes the incident was deliberate, which is why he brought it up during the TGRT News broadcast.

A really neat video by a British bloke on Olympic pistol shooting, the equipment and technique. It goes into depth with the funky optic the South Korean woman uses.

I liked the line he used about how laid-back and hungover Dikec looked in his match :

The gist of the round black thing the Korean woman looks through is an adjustable iris, like in a film camera. By ‘stopping down’ the opening, less light passes through, but what does has an enhanced depth-of-field, bringing the front sight and target both into sharper focus…

      1. It can help. I still have a black plastic disc that I clamp onto my glasses lens, that has a pinhole in it. Line up the pinhole with your line of sight, and the iron sights are clearer. It was pretty common when handgun silhouette shooting took off.

The ‘gadgets’ help, as proven in the video I posted above…

This guy is not alone in having his gun taken away from him, those darn turkeys took my gun too… I lined up a shot and the rest of them jumped me from behind and beat me with their wings and took my gun …. oh wait… wrong Turkey.
