This year alone, there have been various renditions of bills introduced among the states ranging from mandatory to optional training with varied and scalable models utilizing firearm and hunter safety components.
Suppressors reduce noise of a gunshot by as much as 30dB. This doesn’t take away the need for hearing protection, but it can make shooting safer for your hearing. Muffs and plugs are advertised as reducing sound levels by 30 dB but they often provide less protection.
Unfortunately some school officials don’t do what’s necessary to keep children safe. Some are too lazy to ensure exterior doors are secure. Others suffer from denial that anything bad would ever happen. Denial, of course, has no survival value.

The Dec. 13 shooting of motorist Jason Arrington with his own gun by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer Mindy Cardwell is, quite simply, one of the dumbest things we’ve seen a cop has done in quite some time.
It’s important to be precise in describing these issues. Defining the problem as simply “gun violence is the number one cause of death in children and teens” is at best vague, and at worst propagandistic and intentionally misleading.
“I absolutely want more people to have firearms…catchphrases like: ‘An armed society is a polite society.’ Absolutely….We need to give all Americans that level of empowerment.”
Traveling can be hectic. Doing it around the holidays…even more so. Add in flying with a firearm and, well, that can be more than some people are prepared to adequately deal with.
There are locks everywhere and yet people are not using them to lock up their guns…we really need to make sure that guns are stored safely and that people have a means of getting them out the house with folks at risk.
