We’re going to find out if you guys actually want your ammo to be made in America, or not.
That IS what you want, correct?
We can laugh at the people who are about to be paying $300 for a pair of Jordans, and we can say fuck Nike for putting 150 factories and employing 450,000 workers in Vietnam, but some of those people will also be the ones bitching when they have to pay a little more for American made 9mm.
It takes time to build factories and spin up a 2nd/3rd shift.
A primer company launched in Texas a little while ago and it took the better part of THREE YEARS for them to get everything built, tested, and ready for production.
Be patient, trust the process, and give American manufacturers a little time to sort this out.
Agreed. Our post-WWII manufacturing base was slowly dismantled and abandoned over the course of two generations. It will take some time to right the big ship, but it’s like the discipline necessary to stop partying on the credit card and go through the short term “pain” of stopping the spending and paying it down. It’s a drastic change of course that the partiers in your household will gripe about, but the longer term results will be a stronger home. Everyone just needs to understand that Trump also needs to get rates to drop before mid-June due to the $6+ trillion in securities that will roll over and require the Fed Guv to bear. There are a lot of facets to this tariff strategy many aren’t fully considering.
I have always paid more at the hardware store to buy a tool made in U.S.A. over Vietnam or India. Paying a little more for ammo made here instead of imported from the EU is within my tolerances, as I prefer to support my fellow Americans and keep our money here as much as possible.
My two cents.
(Dan, is it possible to restore the site’s recognition of Gravatars?)
Working on it.
“I have always paid more at the hardware store to buy a tool made in U.S.A. over Vietnam or India.”
A laudable goal if one can afford it. Case in point :
A few years back, my dad and I were at a local big-box building supply store looking for a roll of bog-standard electrical tape. Easy-peasy, right? *bzzzzt!*, wrong.
The American made 3M tape was about 6 dollars USD, a roll, while the Chinese knockoff crap was, LITERALLY, fifty cents a roll.
Care to guess what my Vietnam war veteran father bought?
Yeah, buddy, the cheap stuff. Easy to say ‘Made in America’, not so easy to do…
It’s called “Buy Once, Cry Once”. Pay twice as much for a quality item, buy enjoy using it for four times as long.
I work in the manufacturing sector, and we have a longstanding direct relationship with 3M. The adhesives they make are far superior to anything from Chyna. Every once in a blue moon, a new Purchasing Mgr here would try to go off the reservation and save some bucks by bringing in some of the Chinese knockoff crap you refer to, and every time we paid the price by suffering product failures, eventually returning to 3M materials. Costs more, but does what it’s supposed to do with far superior quality.
Everyone has choices, and everyone makes their personal decision. People are free to buy cheap Chinese stuff if they want, and I support their right to do so. But I buy American whenever possible. Yes, I pay more up front, but over the long run it actually costs me less because the items last much longer.
Vietnam dropped its tariffs and is in negotiation with the Trump administration.
Canada dropped its tariffs in response to Trump tariffs.
Mexico dropped its tariffs in response to Trump tariffs.
Israel dropped its tariffs, some what, and Trump imposed a 17% tariff. (Isreal also has a ‘hidden’ tarrif in the form of a VAT they did not drop which would have allowed them to simply increase the VAT and get the same effect of high direct tarrifs on US goods…thus Trump imposed a 17% tarrif on them)
Other countries from which we get ammo and related are mulling over dropping/decreasing tarrifs in response to Trump tarrifs. They probably will.
Canada and Mexico…a large portion of their economy’s were built on the tarrifs they charged on U.S. goods. For example, Mexico so dependant on it of Trumps tarrifs were imposed their economy would collapse in about two weeks. It would take a little longer for Canada but it would happen to them too.
Vietnam, basically the same thing.
Oddly enough, tarrifs to support our country is what the founders envisioned. But, we got away from that starting with income tax being implemented many years ago, and in the 1950’s we started to move away from keeping manufacturing here in the US.
So will there be an increase in prices on some things? Maybe, its difficult to tell right now ’cause lot of this needs to settle out and manufacturers increasing production in the US, with foreign manufacturers relocating manufacturing here and other factors such as job growth need to be taken into account as they also affect prices on goods.
Now Thailand has caved, several others too. The EU is holding meetings trying to figure out what they are going to tell their citizens when their prices go up and their country income from tarrifs drop and their taxes go up.
The US started collecting tarrifs last night at 12:01 AM for all foreign goods in port at the new tarrif rates if there was no agreement with the original country for other rates.
“Canada dropped its tariffs in response to Trump tariffs.“
Really?

Yes…just wait
You obviously don’t understand how this works Mynnr49r.
First. Its only 25%. Prior it was 40 % effective. This is a decrease.
Second, its only for vehicles that don’t meet Canadian standards. Prior it was all.
Canada’s overall tarrif rate was previously ~300% on US goods. Now in response to Trump its come down.
Yes, Canada dropped its tariffs in response to Trump tariffs.
Canada is trying to make a deal.
Canada’s overall tarrif rate was previously ~300% on US goods. Now in response to Trump its come down.”
Where do you get this stuff? Are you not capable of doing the most basic of research? So you’ve made your claim, please show a citation to support your claim of a 300% rate on US goods by Canada.
“Under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), 98 per cent of goods entering Canada from the U.S. have no tariffs – or at least, they didn’t before the trade war.
Many goods can enter Canada tariff-free under MFN status, but Canada places higher default tariffs on some products. Our MFN rate for clothing products averages around 18 per cent, which is partly to help domestic producers compete fairly, but also in the hope of lowering the number of products made under poor labour conditions entering Canadian markets, Harrison says.”

“Where do you get this stuff?”
I get it from research. You are not seeing the hidden tariffs disguised as VAT and other things. Its how a country increases effective tariff without calling it tariff. They aren’t telling you about the hidden tarrifs
“98 per cent of goods entering Canada from the U.S. have no tariffs –”
False…they use the hidden tarrifs disguised as other things, overall this made it (previously) ~300% (effective) tarrif on US goods OVERALL. Now in response to Trump its come down.
To add….Maybe you should try some actual research Myner49 instead of letting the left-wing tell you what to think and do and say.

Told ya before Mynner49er that I’m not going to do your research for you, and no one owes you anything like your left wing mindset thinks. And besides, I already posted in as part of something else in another article comments and like you did before with another comments you glossed right over it, didn’t even see it, in your mentally ill glee reply of screaming “TRUMPPPPPP! JJUST IN: UK Will Admit Trump’s Tariffs Are ‘Understandable’ In Major Trade Deal Breakthrough.
“U.K. Prime Minister Kier Starmer is expected to announce that globalism has “failed” before ordering a full economic reset, according to a report from The Times Of London. …
In his first major announcement since the White House placed sweeping tariffs on imports from dozens of nations based on existing trade deficits with the United States, Starmer is expected to tell the nation that the seismic shift in global trade proves his government must “move further and faster” to boost growth with supply-side reforms.
…
‘Trump has done something that we don’t agree with but there’s a reason why people are behind him on this. The world has changed, globalisation is over and we are now in a new era,’ a spokesperson for the prime minister’s office told the outlet.
The prime minister will be spending the weekend at Chequers, his official country residence in Buckinghamshire, where he will be discussing tariff impacts with world leaders. On Saturday, he spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron over the phone in what was described as a productive conversation.
A Downing Street description of the chat said the two world leaders ‘agreed that a trade war was in nobody’s interests but nothing should be off the table.’
While Starmer is not scheduled to speak with Trump just yet, the two countries are continuing to negotiate on a potential trade deal. Britain has been seeking to work out a new trade deal with the United States since leaving the European Union in 2020, though negotiations had stalled under the previous Conservative Party government.
Starmer met with President Trump at the White House back in February and left feeling ‘confident’ that an agreement could be reached.

Here’s How The Media Are Lying Right Now: Tariffs ‘A Tax On Consumers’ Edition.
“Much like every other major story, the dying news media have managed to take a really interesting topic and thoroughly dumb it down to a limited set of monotonous slogans. In this case, variations of “tariffs hurt working people the most” and “the cost is passed onto consumers.

Nobody needs an advanced economics degree to know that’s not all there is to say about the Trump administration’s tax hike this week on companies importing their products to the U.S. A new tariff doesn’t necessarily mean a price increase for consumers, but if it does, that’s not where it ends. Many things could happen. Some or all of them will.

I purchased a new dishwasher a few weeks ago. The Samsung unit that was under the counter lasted only 3 years. The new one is made in the USA. It cost twice the price of the old one, but it is solid and so quiet you can barely tell it is running.
Made in the USA by American citizens.
I’ve found that even when Korean appliances work, they have the most baffling design choices ever. “Stick wifi on a microwave but don’t give it the ability to set its time from the internet” tier “What were they thinking?!”
My Frigidaire dishwasher (made in USA with Swedish parent company) is still going strong twenty years later. It is NOT quiet though. I’m sure the newer ones are quieter.
All my home’s original Whirlpool appliances are well over 20+ yrs and still going.
My mother’s clothes dryer she bought back in the early ’80s when I was a kid is still in use in her current house!
Yes, they do manufacture their plastic tub dishwasher in the USA. But the better stainless tub dishwasher is made in Italy:

For about 6 years I bought 100 rounds a week of some caliber or another. When I would go to training or the range, I would buy what I intended to shoot. There are a couple of calibers that I would like to create a deeper cushion for, but I’m good for a while.
Bought cheap and stacked deep in other words.
People I encouraged for years to buy ammo weekly still have less than 100 rounds. Including what is in their guns. I expect to get requests to buy soon. I ain’t feeling that generous.
Doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve been buying Winchester, Remington and Hornady ammo ever since I owned guns. I’m USA all the way (except for the one Taurus TX22 I bought, everything else is American made.)
The Taurus TX 22 is designed, manufactured and built entirely in Bainbridge, Georgia.

Got plenty of ammo stored away, all different calibers we use for our firearms.
Many years ago my brother and I were able to get on manufacturers/suppliers ‘special preferred buyer’ lists. This let us buy ‘lots’ of ammo in 10,000 round lots for one to five cents per round (depending on caliber/type). We had been buying for years, have millions of rounds stored away.
Bought what we could when we could then NY stopped mail order ammo and set up a background check (with $2 fee per use) just to buy ammo. Finally have enough primers of all the sorts I will need for the next decade and slowly building out brass bullets and powder for everything I want…… Almost considering going for ffl 6 ……but then I remember that would put me on a very short list for NY

Well-over 20 comments, seriously???
For far too long American companies and consumers have been dependent on foreign suppliers for critical materials, especially those needed for national defense. The last domestic lead smelter was shut down by / during the Obama administration. As an American who loves the American promise and wants to see it preserved for my descendents I support what President Trump is doing to correct our economy and national self reliance, even if in the short term it cost me more and reduc es the balance of my retirement account.
