Under Ruger’s ownership of the brand, Marlin has thrived, releasing a steady stream of updated classics. The latest is a compact, 5-shot model of their 1895 Trapper chambered in .45-70.

Like earlier versions of the Trapper announced last year, this latest model’s receiver and oversized loop lever are made of 416 stainless steel and the threaded 16-inch barrel is 410 stainless steel. It comes with an adjustable Picatinny-mounted Skinner Sights peep sight.

It’s a sleek, effective package before we get to this latest model’s Magpul furniture.

Yes, you read that right. Magpul has entered the lever action market with their ELG stock and forend. ELG stands for Enhanced Lever Gun and it brings the features you know and love from Magpul’s existing stocks to the lever gun world.

Like all of Magpul’s products the ELG’s are constructed of reinforced polymer for strength and weather resistance. They have M-LOK mounting points on the handguard for lights, lasers, or whatever else you want to bolt on to your rifle.

The stock has holds six rounds of ammunition under the comb and comes with a set of spacers to adjust the length of pull in half-inch increments. It also has a cheek riser with two spacers to increase comb height for use with optics.

We already dubbed 2024 as the year of the lever action and Marlin continues to prove that true. This latest 1895 Trapper with Magpul ELG stocks is another great option for folks who want a 21st century lever gun…and there seem to be a lot of those folks.

One Response

  1. Utilitarian, functional plastic furniture absolutely has a place on a stainless lever-action rifle with a threaded barrel.

Bravo, Marlin, .45-70 with a heavy, subsonic load is gonna be one hard, pipe-hitting bundle of ballistic goodness.

It positively warms the very cockles of my cold, black heart to see a release like this…. 😉
